RADAR DISHES
(also known as ears or spinners)

I prefer to call these objects "radar dishes" because that is precisely what they are — or, more precisely, what they are supposed to be. My B9 robot's radar dishes were manufactured by Bill Kendzierski.

As you can see from the photograph above, I have two sets of radar dishes, one painted according to the third-season color scheme, and the second pair unpainted.

The curve in these radar dishes is exactly right. Yet, as beautiful and functional as these dishes are, they too require some work.

First, a little holder will have to built for each radar dish. This will probably mean breaking off the stem that comes with the radar dishes. Craig Reinbrecht has devised a clever way of creating these dish holders.

(photographs borrow with gratitude from the B9 Robot Builders Club website)

This close up from a publicity photograph clearly shows the radar dish or "sensor" holders. Note, however, that the radar is on backwards in this photograph. The vertical dish should be on the robot's left side. Note also that there is a tiny set screw just below the radar dish, in the horizontal half-moon element of the sensor holders.

I like the idea of having my machinist fabricate the holders out of metal.
