If you look closely, you can see damaged areas in the creases and corners of the backplate. These get filled with glazing putty, sanded, and then resprayed with primer. The photograph below shows what the backplace looks like after the glazing putty has been applied. This process of applying putty, sanding, and then priming again has been repeated at least five times. Sadly, it cannot be rushed because the enamel-based primer requires 5 days of curing before the next layer can be applied. Eventually, I will return the surface to the smoothness it had before I destroyed it with lacquer-based paint.
